Are you looking for ways to sell your cello? Perhaps you’ve had your cello sitting in your closet for months or years, or you’ve asked your friends and teachers if they know anyone who would like to buy it. If you’ve had no luck selling your cello, it’s now time to sell it on the Orchestrated App.
Designed in 2023 and launched in 2024 by Melbourne violinist, Jennen Ngiau-Keng, the Orchestrated App is here to solve the long-standing problem of buying and selling classical and orchestral instruments.
There is nothing like it. Our industry is very niche – our instruments are too specific and too valuable to try selling on Facebook Marketplace, Gumtree, eBay or Amazon.
And selling them through a third-party like a music store or local luthier can prove to be a very slow process and expensive, usually incurring a high commission sale fee.
That’s why the Orchestrate App was created.
The process is simple. Just download the free app on the Google Play Store or the Apple Store, sign up in just a few steps and create your instrument ad, and within a few minutes, your ad will be live for the world to see.
It’s important to note that no transactions between buyers and sellers take place on the app itself. The Orchestrated App is designed simply to connect buyers with sellers. It is up to the buyers and sellers to arrange meetings and transaction, and ideally, in person.
The Orchestrated App understands the intricate world of cellos, from their craftsmanship to their unique sound qualities. Whether your cello boasts the craftsmanship of a Stradivarius or the modern innovation of a contemporary luthier, our platform welcomes all types of cellos, ensuring they find their way into the hands of someone who will cherish them.
With the Orchestrated App, you’ll have the freedom to create detailed listings that highlight the unique qualities of your cello, including its maker, history, sound profile, and condition. Our platform empowers sellers to showcase their instruments with confidence, attracting serious buyers who recognise the value and craftsmanship of your cello.
Cellos come in various sizes to accommodate players of all ages and skill levels. From full-size cellos to fractional sizes like 3/4, 1/2, and 1/4, the Orchestrated App caters to musicians seeking their perfect match. Whether you’re selling a beginner cello for a budding cellist or a professional-grade instrument for a seasoned performer, our platform connects you with buyers who understand and appreciate the nuances of cello sizing.
Cellos sold on the Orchestrated App can be sold with bows, cases and accessories. They can all be sold together under the one listing if you prefer to sell them as a package. Unless your cello bow, cello case or accessories are valuable on their own, in which case it would be best to create separate ads for each of these items.
However, if it’s a student cello, it would be best to sell it as a package, including the bow, rosin and case, as well as any spare strings, to ensure a quicker and easier sale. The less shopping the buyer has to do, the easier it makes it for them. So these are things to keep in mind.
With student or less valuable cellos under $500, you might be in a position where someone will want to purchase it without seeing it. If this is the case, make sure you follow your due diligence. Even though the Orchestrated App is a secure platform, ensuring that all buyers must create verified account, there is still a chance that someone might try to scam you. So be sure to speak to them on the phone or via a video call and ensure you receive the full payment before you post or mail your instrument to the buyer.
For buyers looking to purchase musical instruments sight unseen – we don’t recommend it. Cellos are very personal purchases – so buyers or players should play the instrument for a few hours before committing to a purchase, even if it is a low value instrument. Why? Because it’s not just about the cost of the instrument. It’s the fact that you won’t want to practise or play the instrument if you don’t like the sound and feel of it.
When it comes to pricing, Orchestrated App offers flexibility to accommodate a wide range of budgets. Whether you’re selling a high-end cello with a premium price tag or a more affordable option suited for students, our platform caters to buyers with varying financial capabilities. With transparent pricing and a straightforward listing process, selling your cello has never been easier or more accessible.
